Manhattan foodie festival spotlights Queens eateries

In celebration of his omnivorous and eclectic taste, the Village Voice will present its first annual Choice Eats tasting event March 11 from 6:30Ð10 p.m. at the Puck Building, 295 Lafayette St. in Manhattan.The event will showcase some of Sietsema's top picks, spanning the world of gastronomy and the geography of all five boroughs. Not surprisingly, Queens is well represented. Deshi Biryani of Jackson Heights will be serving up Bengali fare, while Sunnyside's Yeti of Hieizan with be scaling Himalayan heights, culinarily speaking. Astoria's Philoxenia will be doing its Panhellenic thing. El Anzuelo Fino of Jamaica, will be cooking to a Latin beat with its down-home Colombian specialties. All of these restaurants have also been scoped in the TimesLedger's Dining Out column.Tickets to Choice Eats include tasty tidbits from 30 different restaurants. Beer, wine and cocktails will be available throughout the event. You must be at least 21 to attend.A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism at Erasmus, a public high-school group with a student club dedicated to studying the evolution of world cultures through the history of regional cuisines.Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.
