NE BRONX FIREBOAT A NO-GO FOR NOW

Residents who live alongside Eastchester Bay, the Sound or the East River, are requesting a dedicated fireboat for the area that could patrol the waters of Throggs Neck, City Island and the entire northeast Bronx.

However, due to budgetary restraints, residents will have to wait for the potentially life-saving addition to become a reality.

The need for such a vehicle has come up after major new waterfront developments and condos have sprung up in recent years along the coast, often on narrow streets where fire trucks have limited access. This has prompted concern about how the community could be better served.

Community Board 10 has been asking that the FDNY allocate a boat that could put out shoreline fires on City Island, Edgewater Park, Country Club, Throggs Neck, and as well as the Hunt
