PANTHERS POUNCE ON TIGERS

By Jon Minners

With a vocal Bronx crowd behind them, the Samuel Gompers Panthers were able to overcome a late 13-point deficit to beat the Teachers Preparatory Tigers, 65-58, on Sunday, March 9, at Lehman College, to advance to the semifinals of the Bronx A Division championship for the first time in 20 years.

The win leaves Gompers as the only Bronx team left in the tournament, after Eagle Academy suffered a shocking 67-66 loss to Westinghouse and ENY Transit eliminated South Bronx, 67-58. With the ousting of the #1 seeded Eagles, the path is cleared for the Panthers to bring a championship back to the borough.
