Flushing Meadows fire takes 3 hours to halt

FLUSHING Firefighters spent three hours battling a massive wildfire in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Friday. The fire was reported at 12:26 p.m. at Union Turnpike and 141st Street and soon warranted a second alarm, fire officials said.

Some 25 trucks and 106 firefighters were dispatched to fight the fire, which was brought under control at 3:20 p.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze had not been determined by press time.
