Jamaica man wounded after firing at cops: DA

JAMAICA A man was hospitalized after a vehicle stop turned into a police shoot-out Sunday, authorities said. Darnell Routier, 21, of Jamaica, was in a black Toyota stopped by officers from the 113th Precinct at 9:20 p.m. at Foch Avenue and 169th Street, police said.

When the car stopped, Routier fled on foot and fired at the two officers, police said. The officers returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Routier was charged with criminal possession of a weapon after police recovered a loaded .45-caliber pistol at the scene, the Queens district attorney said.
