Blau Weiss Gottschee: Santos scores five times for U-7 boys

Progress was made over the weekend by several Blau Weiss teams in their chase for New York State Cup titles while others battled on in league action. On Saturday the free clinic at Juniper Valley Park continued to attract a good number of participants and will continue for at least another week or two.

Gottschee's youngest travel team, the Under-7 boys, continues to show promising development as they defeated Cross Island by a score of, 10-1. Dylan Santos had a banner day with five goals while Sean Molloy with a hat-trick of his own. Eric Schemitsch and Sal Rasizzi knocked in one apiece.

In a game dominated by wind, the Under-8A boys were edged by Islas Malvinas, 3-2. Malvinas did all their damage in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break. In the second half, Gottschee settled in and scored two, courtesy of Alex Jovanovski and Jaime Diluzio.

Perseverance their hallmark, the Under-9 boys came back three times against Asphalt Green Saturday to force a 3-3 tie and grab a point. Gottschee goals were scored by Jonathan Arias, Bryan Sarmago, and Conor McGlynn.

The Under-10 boys took on Istira in what was a tight game for the most part. After a scoreless first half, Istria exploded for three quick goals to take a comfortable 3-0 lead. Blau Weiss recovered to prevent any further damage but could not catch up, scoring only once in the waning minutes on a strike from Alin Basuljevic.

Turning in a solid performance, the Under-11 boys easily dumped Asphalt Green, 5-1. Gottschee surged out to a 4-0 lead in the first half and were never threatened. Asphalt Green scored in the second period but it mattered little. Tallying for Blau Weiss: Joseph Llamuco (2), Conrad Nowowiejeski, Chris Paredes, and Brian Sarmago.

While the style of play was not up to their usual standard, the result was still acceptable as the Under-11 boys got through the third round of the New York State Cup with a 7-0 win over Albertson. Gottschee took a 2-0 lead in the first half on a pair of goals by Jeremy Fedus. After the break the boys individual skill was too much for Albertson to hold back and they added five more, by Alejandro Fernandes (2), Henry Cubas, Bradley Nestor, and Cologero Curcuru.

In an intra-club match the Under-13A boys played the U-13B boys at Brennan Field Saturday. The 'A' team gained control of the match early on and never let up, winning 5-1. Anthony Vilardi scored the lone goal for the 'B' team to avoid the shutout.

Doubling up over the weekend, the Under-14 boys defeated Commack, 3-1, in a Northeast Premier match. Kyle Ciao scored twice and Fadil Paljevic added one before the break, while Commack scored one in the second half off a penalty kick.

On Sunday, the boys edged the Brooklyn Patriots, 1-0, in the second round of the State Cup. The lone goal came midway through the second half when Fadil Paljevic's low cross into the area was nudged just past the Patriots' keeper.

The Umder-15 boys overcame a lethargic, scoreless first half to blow past North Babylon, 5-0, and move to the next round of the State Cup. Mario Gagliano scored a hat trick and Aaron Dennis added a pair.

In Academy play, the Under-16 boys defeated the Boston Bolts, 3-1, Saturday at Brennan Field.

Gottschee took the lead in the 13th minute off a shot by Luis Molina. Boston found the equalizer shortly after in the 29th minute and it remained that way till the break. Early in the second half, Raphael Abreu's blast gave Blau Weiss the lead, which was then compounded minutes later by Justin Orden's shot for a 3-1 Gottschee advantage. Boston pressed on in an attempt to keep it a game and nearly did so, if not for a timely clearance off the Gottschee goal line by Greg Davis.

On Sunday the boys took to the field again, their wear evident, and played a mostly listless match against Seacoast of New Hampshire in a match that ended in a scoreless tie.

The Under-18 boys Academy team managed to salvage a point against Boston Saturday after trailing for nearly the entire match. Blau Weiss dominated form the opening whistle but found themselves down 1-0 after a second-half Bolts goal. With just seconds to go, Akhiel Rodney crossed the ball into the area to Qintel Gates who tied it at one.

On Sunday, the boys found themselves down again, this time in the first half against Seacoast and again it was Rodney who played a big part in the rescue, with a cross in the second period that found Josh Haberman for a header to tie it at 1-1. Two minutes later Rodney nearly doubled his heroics with a blast from 25 yards out that just missed and hit the crossbar, but once again the boys had to be satisfied with a single point.

After trading goals in the first half, Blau Weiss' Under-10 girls lost to Asphalt Green, 3-1. Kaitlyn McGee scored for Gottschee. The Under-11 girls were shutout by Brooklyn Patriots Gold, 4-0.

Building on their successful run through their division, the Under-12 girls posted their third straight shutout by beating Scarsdale Supremes, 5-0. Scoring goals were Christina Caruso, Victoria Antonino, Therese Boyle, and Olivia McFadden.

The High School girls, playing with a depleted team, had a rough outing against Putnam Valley, losing 5-0.
