Horace Nurse, who recently moved to Cambria Heights and has 30 years of experience as a civil engineer and urban planner, was tapped as the corporation's executive director. In a telephone interview Friday, Jemmott said Nurse had worked with overseas businesses, including in the Caribbean and Africa, where he created community development plans and oversaw engineering designs.Jemmott said Nurse will be working with merchants on Linden Boulevard “to try and develop a strategy for business attraction.”He will also inform Cambria Heights businesses about loans and grants they can apply for as well as creating strategies so local merchants can work together, Jemmott said. The non-profit corporation was formed by Jemmott in May 2006 in an effort to revitalize Linden Boulevard. He contends that shops on the strip lack diversity and are out of character with one another. Nurse is the group's first executive director. The corporation will be launching a Web site next week along with a newsletter at the end of the month, Jemmott said.Reach reporter Howard Koplowitz by e-mail at hkoplowitz@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 173.
