We welcome the news that Queens College broke ground on its first dormitory. The 506-bed on-campus building will open August 2009. The college already offers an affordable educational opportunity. With the dormitory, it will be more attractive.
There are many students who count the opportunity to live away from home as an important part of their educational experience. Many Queens parents will see the chance that their children will now be “going away to college” but still living close to home as ideal.
We join Queens College President James Muyskens, who hopes the dorm will entice more students to stay close to home to get their education and begin their professional experience in Queens.
