Police officers need better pay to keep them in New York City

As a city resident, I want to thank our police officers for their hard work and dedication to protecting the citizens and property of New York. I agree with Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch, who said the salaries of officers must be raised to keep them in the city.

Police departments in other cities have been recruiting from here and you cannot blame our officers for wanting to relocate if it means a better starting salary and better benefits. These men and women have bills to pay, families to support and need to have the best medical coverage available.

Pay our police officers and firefighters just what they deserve: the highest pay possible. They, not the professional athletes, are the real heroes of this city. It is a disgrace that an athlete gets paid $250 million to catch, field and hit a baseball. Nobody is worth that much money.
