Blau Weiss Gottschee: U-12 boys are last team left for Gottschee in Cup

Gottschee’s lone survivor in the New York State Cup, the U12 boys, inched closer to the title over the weekend with an impressive, 5-0 win over New Hyde Park. The boys will take on Westchester FC for the Cup out at the Long Island Soccer Park on Saturday at 11 a.m. Blau Weiss’ other teams were quite busy with games on Saturday and Sunday.

In a well played match, GJOA of Brooklyn staged a come from behind victory to nip Gottschee’s U7 team, 5-4. BW lad comfortably 4-2 on pairs of goals by Andrew DiCanio and Sal Rasizzi but then GJOA tallied three unanswered strikes to grab all the points.

The U8’s defeated the Brooklyn Italians 5-1. It was a team effort, directed in large part by solid play out of the back by Filip Glowala. Goals were scored by Jaime DiLuzio (two), Manny Leon, Kristian Pavlovic, and Alex Jovanovski.

Playing up didn’t stop the U9 Boys as they went on to drop Istria’s U10s, 5-2. The teams held each other level in the first period, scoring two apiece. After the half Gottschee picked it up a notch and put the game away with three goals. Bryan Sarmago and Connor McGlynn both scored a pair of goals and Omir Fernandes added the other. Gottschee’s defense was solid, anchored by Mirim Boskovic, Tristan Curmi, and Jonathan Arias.

Up at Brennan Field the U9B team beat Brooklyn Patriots 7-0. Clever finishing touches earned Itzy Quiroz a hat trick, while Dante Giraldi and Stefan Mirkovic added two goals each. Mirkovic had an especially nice one coming off an overlapping run form the right fullback position and finishing with an accurate, swerving drive from twenty yards out. Connor Herrera and Isabelle Montesinos also played very good games.

The U10’s easily defeated the Brooklyn Patriots 7-1 with the scoring spread evenly among the Blau Weiss players.

Downtown United SC was able to keep pace with Gottschee’s U11’s for a half, but then Blau Weiss blew things open in the second period en route to a 4-1 victory. Conrad Nowowiejski put the boys on the board to start and then Connor McGlynn, Mike Torres, and Chris Paredes added the finishing touches in the second half.

Saturday was the big day for the U12’s in the semifinal of the NY State Cup but it proved to be less than a challenge for the boys as they cruised 5-0. Bradley Nestor scored early for Blau Weiss in the 6th minute and by the time the second was added by Arun Basuljevic, after beating two defenders and the keeper, Gottschee was well on its way. The second half turned out to be a one sided affair with Jeremy Fedus terrifying the New Hyde Park defense with a hat-trick to round out the scoring.

On Sunday the U12’s took on Gottschee’s U13’s and managed to tie at 3-3. The U12’s trailed 3-1 till five min from time, when Henry Cubas struck for his second and third goal of the day to pull the teams level.

It was a very busy weekend for the U13’s beginning with an easy rout of Staten Island United 8-2. On Sunday they were knotted by their younger counterparts and then went on to tie America 2-2 on strikes by Gabriel Barros and Sylvester Lennart.

In Academy Team action, the U16’s were down in the Washington area facing off against Potomac on Saturday. Gottschee took the initial lead 1-0 in the 16th minute on a goal by Raphaela Abreu. The lead held well into the second half and then was doubled by Abreu with his second of the day with fifteen minutes to go. Potomac got on the board five minutes later but then Gottschee tightened the defensive screws and held on to win it 2-1.

On Sunday the boys found themselves on the short end of a 5-3 line against DC United. Blau Weiss struggled in the first half and fell behind 3-2. Both of Blau Weiss’s goals were courtesy of Raphael Abreu. DC United wasted no time in the second half, scoring just one minute in to make it 4-2. Leo Fernandes made it close for BW at 4-3 with his shot, but then with time running out DC United was gifted an own goal by Gottschee to end it.

The U18’s played Potomac on Saturday and were blanked 2-0. Potomac scored twenty minutes in on a blast from twenty-five yards out and then added the other in the second period.

Sunday was a better day for the U18’s, edging DC United 2-1. After a scoreless first half Gottschee’s Stephan Broussard scored early to put the boys in front 1-0. Broussard struck again midway through the period and the boys were able to keep United at bay till late, when they scored their lone goal but it wasn’t enough.

The Girls U10’s had a relatively easy time with Cross Island, winning 6-3.

Giving up goals in each half, the U11’s fell to Asphalt Green 2-0. Despite the loss, Elizabeth Bivona was solid in goal for Blau Weiss and Lara McFadden played strong in defense.

The Girls U12 struggled for a change and were tied by Armonk on two late breakaways 2-2. Lack of a cohesive midfield hurt the girls by giving up too much space.

The High School Girls played several matches over the weekend starting with two short scrimmages down at FIAO in Brooklyn. Gottschee split the two matches winning 1-0 and losing 1-0. On Sunday the girls put in one of their strongest performances of the season and defeated Chappaqua 1-0 on a rain slickened field. Stephanie Rengifo scored the lone goal in the opening period. Gottschee had several good chances that went just wide but dominated possession and won the ball with consistency in the midfield.
