Bayside Little League: Callahan deals shutout for Officefurniture.net

In a tremendous pitching duel, Officefurniture.net defeated Kramer Stations, 3-0, in a Bayside Little League Major Division game last week.

James Callahan didn’t give up a run for Officefurniture.net, while Matt Kramer was awesome for Kramer Station, which received terrific defense from Richie Conway in the outfield and Ricky Renzie behind the plate.

Alex Delgaudo and Sean Cunningham were stellar in the field, while Nick Stamoulis and Mahmound Abdelrahman provided the key hits for Officefurniture.net, which improves to 10-2 on the season.

Minor Division

Ira Schwartz DDS vs. Mattone. Defense was the story in this rematch. Steven Yun led the way for DDS by reaching base three times, stealing two bases and pitching well. For Mattone, Nicky Theocharidis got the game ball for his play at second base, which included a double play and two other fine plays.

Nick Rathkamp made a diving stop at short and Alex Papadopoulos gave Mattone, coached by Steve Fonovich, four solid innings behind the plate and the outfield.

Texas Farm Division

Turano Contracting vs. Alpha Produce. In the first meeting between the teams, Turano kept up the pressure offensively all day by playing small ball on Sunday. Jack McNamara led the way with three clutch singles and three RBIs.

Defensively for Turano Contracting Tyler Hartman got two assists in the first inning and Theodore Pigis got an assist on all three outs from the mound in the fourth inning. At first, Ryan Lau had to go to his knees to make a beautiful back handed scoop across his body to prevent a throwing error.

Turano Contracting vs. Doyle B. Schaffer. Turano Contracting came out sluggish for the first time this season and dug themselves an early hole, but came back strong in the latter innings with some big plays and timely hitting in a game played May 21.

Defensively for Turano Contracting, Theodore Pigis and Anthony Autera were stars. Third baseman Theodore Pigis made a web gem in the first inning by running at full speed and lunging at the last moment to snare a short flare and prevent Doyle B. Schaffer from doing any further damage.

Anthony Autera made a play in the fourth inning worthy of the highlight reel by coming from the short infield position to pick up a swinging bunt and beating the runner to third for the final out of the inning.

The big hitter in the game for Turano Contracting was Max Mastrototaro, who had four hits and five RBIs, including a bases clearing double in the third inning.

Turano Contracting vs. Officefurniture.net. In the make-up for a rain out earlier this season, Turano Contracting came out strong against Officefurniture.net determined not to fall behind early last Thursday. But the game quickly turned into a defensive struggle.

In the first inning for Turano Contracting, Tyler Hartman put on a show by getting an assist all three puts outs and holding Officefurniture.net scoreless in the first inning. In the second inning the star was leftfielder Jada Feliciano, who ranged far toward the foul line and made a backhanded shoestring catch to snare a sure bloop double.

But the defensive play of the day went to Gianmarco Damiani who went to his knees to backhand a low line drive and beat the runner to second for a game-ending unassisted double play.
