Paramedics greeted with bedbug infestation at scene of injury

ROCKAWAY PARK — Paramedics called to attend to a victim who had fallen last weekend had to don isolation suits to carry her out of a bedbug-infested room in Rockaway Park, the FDNY said.

The victim was immobilized after a fall, but when paramedics arrived on the scene, they were advised they would need isolation suits to prevent contamination from a bedbug infestation, the FDNY said. The victim, an elderly woman, had fallen last week and injured herself in her apartment at the single-room occupancy Baxter Hotel at 116 Beach 160th Street, the New York Sun reported.

The victim was taken to Peninsula Hospital, where she was being treated for unknown injuries, the FDNY said.
