By Marc Raimondi

Campus Magnet dealt Cardozo its third PSAL Class AA loss of the season with a 58-56 victory Tuesday night in Cambria Heights. It was the first time the Judges have lost that many league games in more than 20 years. The senior-laden Bulldogs beat the Judges in their first meeting in Bayside, as well.Mennon Chavis had 19 points, Kyle O'Quinn had 16 points and Khalil McDonald added 13 for first-place Campus Magnet (11-1 Queens AA). Nathaniel Wilson had five points and 13 assists.”If you play a tight game and you win, it's better than playing a tight game and losing it,” Bulldogs coach Chuck Granby said. “It definitely helps to have kids that have been together a long time.”Cardozo senior Trinity Fields went to the line with .2 seconds left in the game and the Judges down 2. The Iona-bound guard missed the first and missed the second on purpose, but to no avail. Cardozo (9-2) missed seven free throws in the final minute of the game.Judges coach Ron Naclerio called it one of the “toughest” losses of his 26-year coaching career at the Bayside school.”We've never,” he said, “had threes losses like this.”Reach Associate Sports Editor Marc Raimondi by e-mail at [email protected] or call 718-229-0300, Ext. 130.
