Don’t rely on pols to fix problems

By Hadjih Bey, Bayside

Betty J. Dopson's letter “Paterson has ability to help city blacks' living standards” reveals what is wrong with many black communities: the belief that a messiah in the form of a government official will lead them to the promised land.

How ironic for an advocate of “self-help” to depend on a professional politician. Only individuals can raise their living standards.

College graduates find jobs, get married and have children. That is the best poverty program ever invented.
