Drunk driver rear-ends cop in S. Ozone Park: DA

SOUTH OZONE PARK — A Brooklyn man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Sept. 1 after he crashed into the rear of a police cruiser, the Queens district attorney's office said.

Shortly before 12:25 a.m., an officer was in his squad car at the intersection of the Van Wyck Expressway and Linden Boulevard when Carlos Garcia, 27, allegedly drove his 1995 Nissan Maxima into the cruiser, the DA's office said.

The officer allegedly noticed Garcia had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, the DA's office said.

Garcia was charged with driving without a license and driving while intoxicated, the DA said. His next court date is Oct. 6.
