Teen menaced with razor, robbed at mall: DA

ELMHURST — An 18-year-old Corona man was arrested after he attacked a teenager and stole his iPod earlier this month at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Byron Cruz, of 38-11 108th St. in Corona, was arraigned Sept. 8 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Robert Raciti on robbery, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon charges and held on $5,000 bail, the DA said. The defendant will return to court Oct. 23, he said.

The defendant approached the 13-year-old victim near the food court at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst, pulled out a razor blade, put the blade against the victim's stomach and told him that they would fight in the bathroom, the DA said.

Cruz then struck the victim in the back of the head with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground, the DA said. He then reached into the victim's pocket and took his iPod, he said.
