Parkway officials blast closure order at Elmhurst forum

By Howard Koplowitz

It was supposed to be a public forum to take suggestions on how the city should spend $10 million to improve primary care, but officials and physicians affiliated with Parkway Hospital hijacked the meeting Monday at Elmhurst Hospital to complain about the stateÕs effort to close their facility.

Dr. Paul Ackerman, a Forest Hills orthopedic surgeon affiliated with Parkway, said the City Council, which sponsored the public forum, was ÒsilentÓ on the so-called Berger Commission report that recommended closing the hospital.
