Police are looking for a suspect who they say viciously murdered a pregnant woman and her unborn baby inside her South Ozone Park apartment this weekend.

Niasha Delain, 25, was found stabbed to death in her first-floor apartment at 109-57 Lefferts Blvd. Saturday night by her mother and boyfriend, police said. Delain, who had recently moved into the apartment, located behind a grocery store, was nearly 9 months pregnant, according to police.

“That’s why I’m so surprised. I never heard of anything like this happening before here,” said Feroz Khan, 27, who has been living upstairs in the building for three years and was at work when her body was discovered.

Police had not identified any suspects or made any arrests as of Monday and the investigation was ongoing.

The murder was discovered when Delain’s mother and boyfriend, whom police did not identify, entered the apartment after not hearing from the expecting mother for several days, police said. When they entered the building, they found her with slash marks across the neck and several stabs wounds on her belly, according to police.

EMS crews pronounced her dead at the scene, police said.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown told reporters there were no signs of forced entry. However, the bars on one of the building’s rear windows were removed and the window was open.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
