By Gary Buiso

The borough’s top boss will welcome Governor Eliot Spitzer to Red Hook next week for the annual “State of the Borough” address. Spitzer, along with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, will join Borough President Marty Markowitz on Feb. 7 at Pier 12 at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. “It is important for him to ensure that Brooklyn is a premier stop on the cruise ship lines, so to celebrate that, he’s having [the event] at the cruise ship terminal,” said Markowitz spokesperson Mark Zustovich. A reception is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the speech to follow at 7:15 p.m. This will be the term-limited beep’s penultimate speech. Spitzer spokesperson Jordan Isenstadt confirmed that his boss is expected to attend. Any bombshell announcements, particularly about the future of Red Hook’s Piers 7-12, are not expected. “Ultimately, he’s looking forward to hearing what the borough president has to say,” Isenstadt said. John McGettrick, the co-president of the Red Hook Civic Association, said he hopes the powerful pols learn from their trip to Red Hook. “It would be great if the borough president and the governor leave Red Hook with the knowledge that when we had twice the population, we had thousands of more jobs as well,” he said. “We need their continued help in the rebuilding the residential and commercial base,” he added.
