Man flashes woman, assaults cop: Brown

ASTORIA — A Long Island City man exposed himself to a woman on the street and then assaulted a police officer at his arraignment earlier this month, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Ryan Powell, 25, was charged with public lewdness and harassment for allegedly exposing himself to a 36−year−old woman on Steinway Street Dec. 2, the DA’s office said. Both charges are misdemeanors, the DA’s office said.

But Powell apparently upped the ante at his arraignment when he allegedly assaulted an officer trying to move him to a holding cell, the DA said. Powell began to struggle, shout obscenities and threw the officer into a wall, the DA said. He was charged with felony assault for the alleged attack on the officer, the DA said.

He was arraigned Dec. 4 and bail was set at $25,000. His next court date is Dec. 18.
