Different verdict: Judges girls’ relay team misses out on third Millrose victory

By Christopher King

The pride of the Cardozo girls' track and field program, Muhammad helped the Judges to a second-place finish in the Mayor's Cup Girls PSAL 4×400 meter relay at the Millrose Games Friday night at Madison Square Garden.”I'm happy with today's race,” said Muhammad, who will be attending USC this fall. “It's three years in a row now that we've been in [the Millrose Games] and we got a second-place finish, so we did good.”Not only has Cardozo been a part of the Games for the last three years, the Judges have won each of those events before this year's second-place finish. Cardozo finished just over five seconds behind Boys & Girls with a 3:58.51 time.”Unfortunately, it didn't work out the way we wanted it to work out today, but it was a nice race,” Cardozo coach Gail Emmanuel said. “We came back this year and the competition was much tougher.”Cardozo took second despite a less-than-100 percent Muhammad, as well.”She's awesome, I just wish she had a little preparation,” Emmanuel said. “She's a little behind, but she always puts in her best effort regardless of what type of shape she's in.”When Muhammad arrives at Southern California, she'll compete against former Judges teammate Lindsay Rowe, who is at Pac-10 and crosstown rival UCLA.”Cardozo was fun and I'll definitely have memories,” Muhammad said. “But I'm excited to go to USC and start that part of my life.”
