45TH CRIME RISES IN 2008

By Patrick Rocchio

Overall major crime has risen by 39% in the 45th Precinct, while the number of new officers has not.

The 45th Precinct experienced a 100% jump in burglaries and a 120% jump in robberies when compared to this point in the year in 2007. Through February 3, the latest date for which statistics were available, there were 28 burglaries and 44 robberies.

Other major crime categories, felony assault and grand larceny, also saw small increases at the start of this year. The only one of the major seven crime categories to register a decrease was grand larceny auto, which fell by almost 7%.

One bright spot was that, so far, there has not been a murder reported in the 45th Precinct. A badly decomposed body was found in a car parked in front of 634 Edison Avenue on January 20, but the murder did not occur within the confines of the precinct.
