AIA PROPOSAL WOULD REVISE ZONING VICTORIES

The American Association of Architects, New York chapter, has filed a proposal with the New York City Department of City Planning that would eliminate some of the concessions won when several Bronx communities were down-zoned several years ago.

The citywide zoning change proposal put forth by the AIA contains amendments seeking to maximize land use for the benefit of the building lobby. The proposed amendments to the city zoning code, six in all, would affect some medium and low-density districts.

The down-zoning of Pelham Bay, City Island, Throggs Neck, Morris Park, and other areas came in response to reckless building on the part of many developers early in this decade.
