A motion passed to approve the proposal that would establish a Business Improvement District for Belmont, also known as Little Italy, at the Community Board 6 meeting on February 13.
The BID will contain 267 properties in a commercial area that spans approximately 37 blocks, roughly from Fordham Road to the north, East 183rd Street to the south, Lorillard Place to the west and Southern Boulevard to the east.
The major sites within the vicinity of the district include Fordham University, the Bronx Zoo, the New York Botanical Garden and St. Barnabas Hospital.
While the board gave their support and approval to move forward with the BID, as the project progresses they continue to urge local residents and business owners to share their ideas with the board and the Belmont Small Business Association.
