Bloomberg can help city recover economically

Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s approval rating has dropped to 52 percent from about 70 percent in November. But his numbers are still ahead of his leading contenders, like U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D−Forest Hills), city Comptroller Bill Thompson, and City Councilman Tony Avella (D−Bayside).

Many are upset because Bloomberg went against the will of the people on term limits, but difficult times call for difficult decisions. When President Franklin D. Roosevelt ran for four terms, some were upset. Some call the mayor “king” or “czar.”

In these difficult times, we need an independent, honest leader like Bloomberg to get New York moving again. He used his business experience to turn the city around after Sept. 11, 2001, by creating jobs and balancing the budget while protecting vital services. Although some doubt his veracity, let no one doubt his efforts to guard and try to make this city better.

Bloomberg has an economic plan for the city:

• create infrastructure like subways and roads

• reduce our dependence on Wall Street with smart, local development

• help small businesses by cutting taxes

• create “green jobs” by investing in alternative renewable energy technologies, like wind and solar

We need Bloomberg to keep our economy moving, neighborhoods safe, schools strengthened and city cleaner and stronger.
