Donald E. Hope, 85

Donald E. Hope, of Fresno, Calif., and a former Bayside resident, died Feb. 23. He was 85.

Hope was born on Oct. 5, 1923, in Bayside. He enrolled at Cornell University in the College of Agriculture, but withdrew in 1942 to enlist in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was awarded three battle stars for service in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge.

He returned to Cornell after his discharge, receiving his bachelor’s in 1950. Don was employed by the Pennwalt Corp. for 30 years, serving as division marketing manager in Fresno from 1975−81. After retirement, Hope sold advertising specialties for 20 years.

He is survived by his second wife, two sons, daughter, five step−children, six grandchildren and great−granddaughter.

A memorial will be held at St. Columba Anglican Church in Fresno March 7 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be later that day at Campo Santo at ECCO in Oakhurst, Calif.
