Malba man dies of carbon monoxide poisoning: Police

A Malba man was killed in his sleep and his wife seriously injured Saturday night after he inadvertently left his car running in his closed garage, police said.

Officers responded to 11−11 141 St., around 9:45 p.m. after getting a call of unconscious people at the residence, police said. Ernest Cordelia, 79, and his unidentified 69−year−old spouse were found in their bedroom, and the man was declared dead at the scene, according to police.

The woman was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she listed in serious stable condition, the authorities said. Investigators said a car was found idling in the garage of the one−family house, causing carbon monoxide fumes to seep through the home.

No criminality was suspected in the incident, according to police. Neighbors did not wish to comment on the accident.
