Creedmoor center escapee killed by train

GLEN OAKS — A patient who fled from Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Glen Oaks was hit by a train in Manhattan and killed Friday evening, police said.

Authorities said Russell Velez went missing from Creedmoor at approximately 9 a.m. Friday morning, leading police to issue a missing person notice. Police, however, said the 32−year−old Velez was struck by an oncoming C subway train at the Eighth Avenue−14th Street station in Manhattan at about 6:30 p.m.

EMS officials arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead a short time later, according to authorities.
