Man, 33, charged with assault on traffic agent

WHITESTONE — A 33−year−old man was arrested and charged with assault Friday after attacking a traffic agent who was writing him a parking ticket, authorities said.

Police said Walter Calda’s car was parked on 150th Street near 14th Avenue when a traffic agent began writing him a ticket for an expired meter. Authorities said when Calda noticed the traffic agent, he allegedly got out of his car and yelled at the agent.

According to police, Calda’s anger escalated and he allegedly struck the agent in the back of the head several times, causing swelling and neck pain.

He was arrested by police shortly after the attack and authorities said he has been charged with assault and harassment.
