A Whitestone family of five had a close call Tuesday night when a three-foot arrow was fired at their house.
Eric Weinberger said he had finished putting out the trash around 9 p.m. and was entering the house when he saw the projectilestrike a window that was feet away from him. Although the arrow was lodged in the window, Weinberger said he was alarmed because his wife Karen and two of his children were in the dining room on the other side of the window.
“When I saw the arrow, I yelled at them not to get out of the house,” he said.
Weinberger, 48, who has lived in the 20th Road house for four years with his wife, teenage daughter and two younger sons, said he saw a black Hummer drive off from the scene. Police arrived within minutes and a helicopter combed the area, according to Weinberger. No suspects had been arrested as of Wednesday morning, investigators said.
The homeowner said he and his wife have no enemies and don’t know why someone would target his home.
“I hope it’s a random act,” he said.
Officers removed the three-foot blue fiberglass arrow, which had a silver tip and green feathers, and told Weinberger that it was powerful enough to kill a 1,000-pound deer.
“It wasn’t a little arrow like a kid would use. It was a hunting arrow,” said Weinberger , who works at a Costco in Westchester.
The incident occurred more than a week after Denise Delgado-Brown was shot in the stomach in the Bronx by an arrow. Police say Eric Collins, who was arraigned in the Bronx Friday on assault and reckless endangerment charges, fired the arrow into Delgado-Brown from his nearby house.
Weinberger called on the people responsible for shooting the arrow into his house to turn themselves in.
“Don’t do it again. Don’t hurt an innocent person,” he said.
