Cancer Society plans Dogswalk on May 3

The American Cancer Society will host its 17th annual Dogswalk Against Cancer May 3 at Bear Mountain Park, where dogs of all shapes and sizes will take part in a variety of contests.

Nearly 3,000 people and 1,000 dogs from the five boroughs, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania turned out for the 2008 walk. This year’s walk will take place May 3 at Bear Mountain Park, about 45 miles outside Manhattan.

The event will give attendees the opportunity to raise money to fight both human and canine cancer with part of the proceeds going to Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Participants who pledge $500 or more will receive the Golden Bone Award.

Check−in for the event is 8 a.m. and activities will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with a non−competitive walk around Hessian Lake. Vendors will provide food at the walk.

Attendees will be able to enter their pups into a number of contests, such as Musical Dog Sit, Best Dog Trick and Best Dog Costume.
