I am from Far Rockaway and went to public school. Because of mayoral control, I can see a major difference in the resources in my daughter’s school and the quality of the teachers than when I went to school.
Not having adequate textbooks or certified teachers was a major problem then. Now, my daughter is in a small class and I think students learn at a faster pace because they have teachers who care. I see that my daughter has more one−on−one time with her teacher and I have strong communication with her as well.
Mayoral control has helped make all these improvements possible. It should be renewed this June.
