Don’t back highway camera towers

Seventy−five−foot−tall electronic towers are being built all over our local highways and there is no press coverage. This is part of the state Automated Traffic Response Management System.

The local politicians and community board have feigned ignorance on these towers, which are being installed at record speed. I urge all residents to research terms such as “RFID” and “automatic license plate recognition systems.” It is obvious to this taxpayer that the state Department of Transportation is installing a tolling grid which will soon charge you for using highways.

DOT officials will no doubt use the tired excuse that this system is to protect us from terrorists — as if al−Qaida will be coming off Exit 29 of the Long Island Expressway. This is an extension of the police state that risen after Sept. 11, 2001, and another clever tax scheme by shameless politicians of both parties.

Instead of clapping for these politicians, as the community did at the recent Memorial Day parade, remember how they take away your rights and remember their never−ending attempts to pick your wallet.
