Senate needs heavy revamping

Sometime ago, the Brennan Center for Justice, a public interest law center at the New York University School of Law, rated the New York state Legislature the worst in the nation.

One would have thought a combination of mediocrity and incompetence could not be made worse. The current circus that passes for a legislative body in the state Senate, in particular Democrats who instead of kicking Sens. Hiram Monserrate (D-East Elmhurst) and Pedro Espada (D-Bronx) out of the party rewarded them for their disgraceful conduct, makes it clear “depravity” would be a better description (“What a Disgrace,” Flushing Times, July 16).
