Man charged with impersonating officer

SUNNYSIDE — A man’s attempt at playing cops and robbers went awry when he allegedly approached an undercover police officer while posing as one himself, authorities said.

The Queens district attorney said Bronx resident Antoine Reavis, 28, allegedly held a man up against a wall near the corner of Queens Boulevard and 42nd Street and spoke into a handheld radio as if he were a police officer.

The DA said Reavis then allegedly turned to two undercover police officers who observed this and said “Excuse me ladies, I’m a police officer investigating a shooting,” and asked if the officer had any information.

The officer then identified herself as a member of the New York Police Department and Reavis allegedly fled, the DA said.

Reavis was later apprehended and charged with second-degree impersonation and unlawful possession of radio devices, the DA said.
