Indiana man brought pistol into LGA: DA

EAST ELMHURST — A 24-year-old Indiana man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to bring a firearm in his luggage to LaGuardia Airport, the Queens district attorney said.

Joseph Djeunga, of Indianapolis, Ind., was arraigned July 26 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Lenora Gerald on a criminal possession of a weapon charge and released on his own recognizance, Queens DA Richard Brown said. He will return to court Sept. 14, the DA said.

On July 26, the defendant allegedly told a ticket agent for AirTran Airlines at LaGuardia that he had a firearm in his luggage and that he wanted to check it, the DA said. Police allegedly recovered a black Walther P-22 semi-automatic pistol and a card box containing 50 rounds of ammunition from the defendant’s luggage, Brown said.

The defendant allegedly told police he did not know he needed a New York license for the weapon, the DA said.
