State Assemblyman Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows) and city Councilman James Gennaro (D-Fresh Meadows) honored Fresh Meadows resident Rose Ullman at the Israel Center of Conservative Judaism Sunday for her donation of an ambulance to the Hatzolah volunteer ambulance service.
Rose Ullman donated the ambulance to the service in honor of her late husband, Jack Ullman.
“An ambulance is a tremendous gift,” Lancman said.
The Assemblyman said the gift is especially needed in trying economic times and will be a huge help to Hatzolah.
Hatzolah is entirely made up of Jewish volunteers and responds to more than 6,000 calls annually in Queens.
“I don’t think the public realizes the role these volunteer ambulance organizations play in the community,” Lancman said. “They are very important.”
Lancman said Hatzolah is especially important because it allows Queens residents to be cared for in stressful situations by people they frequently know.
“It’s a tremendous comfort for people in the Jewish community to know they have these members of their own community to service their needs,” Lancman said.
