How’s Business? You can start a business online

By Joseph Palumbo III

Have you ever had this great idea about a product you wanted to sell online? It seems everyone is selling something online or somehow making money on the Internet.

So how is it done? First, you will need to launch your own Web site and e-mail account. You do not have to explain your product on your site or in your e-mail address.

Contract with a Web-hosting company that will provide you with access to a Web server — i.e., Go Daddy or something similar. Design a site that is original and simple to navigate. You do not have to spend big money on your site, but also do not go the frugal route either. Remember: Chances are your Web site will be your first line of advertising and first look your product gets. Do not spend a fortune, but have it be professional.

You may want to talk with other businesses that complement the product you are selling. Work out a deal to set up links to each other’s sites and exchange banner advertisements. Provide as many options as possible for people to be able to do business and purchase your product online. Run an honest shop. The best form of business is referral. Do not over-hype your product online because that will lead to it being deemed not credible. Be fair to your clients when a client concern arises and needs to be addressed.

So How’s Business regarding selling a product online? Promote yourself and your site online. Go out and get some business cards or flyers made and hand them out. Perhaps get T-shirts made with your Web site logo on it or work out deals with various vendors to put out your business cards in their establishments. Take every precaution to ensure the personal data transmitted between site visitors and you is protected. There is even certain Internet “bonding” you can obtain regarding accepting monies and being deemed a trustworthy vendor doing business on the Internet. Now all that is left is determining what product you want to sell.
