Drunk driver had teens, child in car: Nassau cops

LONG ISLAND — A Ridgewood man was driving drunk this weekend in Merrick, L.I., with three teens and a child riding with him, Nassau County authorities said.

Manuel Rauda, 43, of Stephen Road, was arrested Saturday evening and arraigned the next day on DWI and endangering the welfare of a child charges in Nassau Criminal Court, according to a spokesman for the Nassau district attorney.

Rauda was driving his 2001 Mazda with a four other occupants, aged between 7 and 17, and crashed into another vehicle at Meadowbrook Road and Babylon Turnpike at 5:15 p.m., Nassau County police said. No one was injured, but officers found high levels of alcohol in Rauda’s blood, according to the Nassau County police.

He was released on his own recognizance Sunday and was scheduled to return to court Wednesday, according to a spokesman at the Nassau County DA’s office.
