Jamaica man assaulted, endangered woman: DA

JAMAICA — A 25-year-old Jamaica man was arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun on a woman, bit her and then caused the weapon to fire a bullet into her ceiling during a struggle, the Queens district attorney said.

Travis Day, of 114-26 158th St. in Jamaica, was arraigned Sept. 7 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Robert Raciti on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, assault and menacing, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The defendant was held on $10,000 bail, he said.

Day got into a verbal dispute with a woman in a 169th Street home in Jamaica June 15, during which he allegedly pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at her, Brown said. The woman’s son allegedly attempted to wrest the gun away from the defendant and, during the course of a struggle between the three of them, Day bit her, the DA said.

During the struggle, the gun was also allegedly discharged, causing a bullet to be fired into the ceiling, the DA said. Police allegedly retrieved the gun upon Day’s arrest, Brown said.
