Clerk at Staples stole $8K in electronics: DA

BAYSIDE — A stock clerk at the Staples on Northern Boulevard allegedly stole digital cameras and laptops worth more than $8,000 in little over a month, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Michael Swensen, 21, of Bayside, was arraigned Sept. 3 in Queens Criminal Court on charges of grand larceny, the DA’s office said. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court Oct. 21, the DA’s office said. If convicted, Swensen faces up to seven years in prison, the DA said.

After checking stock records, the store manager noticed three digital cameras and 13 laptop computers were unaccounted for, according to a criminal complaint filed by the DA’s office. When questioned, Swensen allegedly said he took the items because he needed the money for medical bills, the complaint said.
