Gennaro must concede election

After two months of voter recounts by the state Elections Board and review by our courts, the time has come to declare longtime incumbent state Sen. Frank Padavan (R−Bellerose) the winner of the 11th Senate District election.

As a member of Community Board 13, I am appalled that our community is being unfairly disenfranchised from being represented in the state Senate.

Enough of “politics as usual.” The time has come for City Councilman James Gennaro (D−Fresh Meadows) to concede the election. If Gennaro is concerned about district residents, as he has said during his campaign, he will put a halt to the court appeals process.

I and many others are offended by the absence of a gracious concession. Padavan has served his state and community with honor and distinction for 35 years. Now that all the legitimate votes have been counted, he should be declared the winner, giving our community a duly elected senator.
