Homeless man kills Astoria gal pal, gets 19 years

By Nathan Duke

A 38−year−old man who lives in a Manhattan homeless shelter was sentenced to 19 years in prison earlier this month for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend at an Astoria housing development in January 2007, the Queens district attorney said.

Warren Johnson, who resides at Manhattan’s 129 Fulton St. homeless shelter, pleaded guilty in December before Queens Supreme Court Justice Robert Hanophy, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The judge sentenced Johnson to 19 years in prison Jan. 13, the DA said.

“The sentence imposed is more than justified,” Brown said. “The defendant admitted he attacked his girlfriend in a fit of rage, badly beating her about the forehead and eyes and stabbing her in the neck.”

Johnson had admitted that he had stabbed his 36−year−old girlfriend, Consuelo Bellamy, after arguing with her during a party at Long Island City’s Ravenswood Houses because he had felt disrespected, the DA said.

A video surveillance camera above an elevator in the lobby of one of the housing development’s buildings, at 35−21 21st St. in Long Island City, shows Johnson holding the doors open and gesturing, while the victim slowly crawls out of the elevator, the DA said. Johnson is then seen pulling up the victim and walking out of the elevator, he said.

Bellamy suffered multiple bruises and died from a one−inch laceration between her Adam’s apple and carotid artery, Brown said.
