Police say man tried to abduct boy, 8, in Astoria

ASTORIA — A boy was nearly abducted off the street last week, according to police, and the authorities have asked for the public’s help in catching the suspect.

The incident took place near Broadway and 37th Street around 8 a.m., when the unapprehended man allegedly grabbed an 8-year-old boy by the wrist and said “come go with me,” according to police.

The boy broke away and ran to his father, who tried to confront the suspect, police said.

The man fled on foot, according to police. The entire incident was recorded on a surveillance camera.

The suspect was described by police as a black or Latino man between 30 and 40 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build and a possible bald head. He was seen wearing a beige baseball cap, a gray hoodie and a long gray overcoat, according to investigators.
