Karen Koslowitz claimed victory in the race for City Councilwoman Melinda Katz’s (D-Forest Hills) seat, while Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (D-Middle Village) reclaimed her position in City Hall Tuesday, according to unofficial results reported by NY1.
Koslowitz, a Democrat, defeated Lynn Schulman, a registered Democrat who ran on the Working Family Party line in the general election, and Republican Bartholomew Bruno. Crowley staved off a challenge from former Councilman Tom Ognibene, a Republican.
A former councilwoman who represented District 29, Koslowitz received 11,170 votes, or63.4 percent. District 29 covers Forest Hills, Rego Park, Kew Gardens and parts of Richmond Hill, Maspeth and Elmhurst.
Bruno, a Republican, placed second and landed 3,752 votes, or 21.3 percent. Schulman, a Democart,, got 2,697 votes, or 15.31 percent.
Crowley captured 11,227 votes, or 59.36 percent, to win her first full term representing District 30, which includes Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood and parts of Richmond Hill. Ognibene received 7,686 votes, or 40.64 percent.
