Incumbent Republican Eric Ulrich, 24, won his first full term on the City Council Tuesday night with 58.11 percent of the vote, or 10,167 votes, handily beating Democrat Frank Gulluscio, 60, who received 41.89 percent, or 7,330 votes.
Voters chose to return Ulrich, the youngest sitting council member, to his seat, which was one of only three held by Republicans before the election. Ulrich campaigned largely on the results he has brought to the region since he was voted into office in the February special election to fill the seat vacated by Joseph Addabbo Jr. (D-Howard Beach), who was elected to the state Senate.
Gulluscio, who secured the support of nearly all the leaders of the Queens Democratic establishment, has decades of experience in civics and government, serving in many roles, including working as an aide to Addabbo.
But Ulrich is a sitting Council member with youth on his side and the district’s voters gave him the chance to prove himself over a four-year term.
