The Center for the Women of New York will host a job fair at Flushing’s Sheraton-LaGuardia East Hotel Nov. 13 that will include a panel of professional women, workshops and a fashion show.

The World of Working Women Conference and Job Fair, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, will encourage women to consider working in fields they may never have considered as well as analyzing whether the economic conditions of women in the workforce are improving.

The fair will include a full day of panelists and representatives from private companies, government agencies and career training schools. The Dress for Success Fashion Show will follow the day’s workshops and raffles and prizes will be handed out.

The Queens-based center, at 120-55 Queens Blvd., in Kew Gardens, is hosting the event on the heels of the release of a study by the Center for American Progress, which found that women now make up 50 percent of the nation’s workforce.

Back in 1973, the study found that women earned 77 cents for every $1 men earned, but this year the group reported little progress with women earning 79 cents for every $1 earned by male workers.

For 22 years, the Center for the Women of New York has been focusing on the conditions for working women in the five boroughs.

At the upcoming fair, the panel of women will discuss a variety of professions that women should consider for employment, such as organizations that focus on cleaning up the environment as well as health care and educational fields. The event will also provide tips on how women can find job listings for these types of careers.

The fair will be held at the Sheraton-LaGuardia East Hotel at 135-20 39th Ave., in Flushing. For more information, visit cwny.org.

Queens residents interested in attending the job fair should call 718-793-0672 or e-mail centerwny@yahoo.com to register for the panel and workshops. The event will cost $5 and attendees should bring a resume.
