Police say man attacked his mother’s boyfriend

WOODHAVEN — Officers arrested Steven Poplis, 21, Nov. 4 in front of 95-22 101 Ave. after he allegedly got into a verbal dispute with Massimo DiFiore, 37, and punched him multiple times in the head and chest and hit him in the face with a porcelain lighthouse statue, which shattered on impact, police said.

DiFiore suffered substantial pain, lacerations to the nose and upper lip and swelling to his nose, police said. DiFiore is Poplis’ mother’s boyfriend.

Poplis was charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree harassment, said police.
