LIC home robbery ends in shooting death: Brown

LONG ISLAND CITY — A 31-year-old Brooklyn man and a 23-year-old woman from that borough were arrested after they allegedly took part in a robbery at a Long Island City home which resulted in a man being shot to death, the Queens district attorney said.

Magin Rifas, 31, and Christina Rosario, 23, of Brooklyn, were arraigned March 26 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Joseph Zayas on charges of murder, attempted burglary, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The defendants, who were remanded without bail, will return to court April 9.

The duo and several other suspects who have not been apprehended are alleged to have mapped out a plan during which they would knock on the door of an apartment on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, forcibly enter the home and restrain its owner with the intent of stealing money, Brown said.

The defendants and a suspect who has not been apprehended were approached by three people outside the apartment, the DA said. The unapprehended suspect fired at the people, killing one man as well as seriously injuring another and wounding a third person, Brown said.
