Cops ID woman found at Montefiore Cemetery

CAMBRIA HEIGHTS — Police have identified a woman who was found unconscious at Montefiore Cemetery at 1:14 a.m. April 15.

Emergency medical services transported the victim, Khadija Mahel, 44, of Brooklyn, to Queens General Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival, according to police, who did not immediately release her identity after she was found.

After further investigation, Muhammad Iqbal, 44, of Brooklyn, was arrested as a suspect in the case and charged with second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, according to police.

Iqbal, a Moroccan immigrant and failed ice cream shop owner, allegedly strangled Mahel, his longtime girlfriend, with an extension cord, then dumped her body in the cemetery, authorities told the New York Post.
